Nobody outside of Google knows how Google sets up their algorithms.  Google protects this information so that virtually no one has knowledge of how Google judges the relevance and accuracy of a website.  Google algorithms rank websites on the SERP (search engine results page) when an internet search brings up websites that have keywords optimized matching keywords in the search phrase.  An search example could be “santa rosa plumbers“.  The websites with the most relevant and helpful information for this search would come up with 10 websites ranked 1-10 on each page.


Most searches don’t go beyond the first page, only 2% go to page two, so if somebody was looking for a plumber in Santa Rosa they would most likely choose from the 10 websites on page one.  The top website will get 35-40% of the click throughs to there website.  The #2 spot will get 15-20%.  The #3 website gets only 10-12%.  The #4 website gets a mere 8-10% and the #5 gets 5-7%.  The bottom 5 websites on page one get 5% or less of the click throughs.

Tons of SEO companies claim they can get local businesses on “page one on Google” for local organic searches.  That sounds great!  But, ask a business owner what that will do for his company and it gets a little dicey.  Being on “page one on Google” for local searches will give you better exposure and visibility than being on page two.  But, hardly anyone goes to page two in a local search.  That’s just a fact.  Less than 10% on website click-throughs come from page two on Google.
